August 11 - Deadline for Reporting Tips to Employers
If you’re employed in a position that regularly earns tips and you’ve received over $20 in tips during July, it’s imperative that you report them to your employer using IRS Form 4070 no later than August 11. Employers are required to withhold applicable FICA taxes and income tax obligations from your regular wages based on these reported tips. Should your paycheck not cover these withholdings, the amount will appear as uncollected in box 8 of your annual W-2 form, which you’ll need to address when filing your tax return.
